My Reaction: I think this is a great deal for the Flyers. The money is reasonable now, and in a few years, he’ll surely look underpaid as the cap continues to rise and Konecny continues to improve. He’s a hard-nose, incredibly hard-working winger, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to win, which is a very attractive trait to coaches and makes him really well-liked in the dressing room. He’s a dynamic skater with phenomenal hockey sense and puckhandling skills, and he’s got a very quick release and overall good scoring touch. He’s yet to fully break out point production-wise at the NHL-level, but he’s only 22 so he still has plenty of time to reach his full potential. Konecny is also great in all three zones and is willing to be physical and play a grinding style, which can make him very difficult to play against. All of these things combine to make him a complete winger and make this deal look good now, and even better a few years down the road. I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s underpaid right now, but by the end of the deal, I bet he will be. Overall, Konecny is a great young player who fits in very well in the Flyer’s system, and fans are rightfully very excited to have him back in the fold at a reasonable cap hit and for the long term!
