
The Columbus Blue Jackets signed a big fish in Gustav Nyquist, but it will surely not be enough to replace the three key players they lost in Matt Duchene, Sergei Bobrovsky, and Artemi Panarin. They also resigned a few guys that will have much bigger roles this coming season because of those losses, but they were otherwise a quiet team bound for some serious regression. Here is a recap of their free agency
- Ryan Murray, D. Murray resigned with the Blue Jackets on a two year, $9.2 million contract with an AAV of $4.6 million. Last season, he appeared in 56 games for Columbus, in which he produced 29 points. Over his NHL career, he has played in 320 games, over which he has recorded 101 points. Murray was a second round draft pick by Columbus in 2012, and the 25-year-old defenseman has only been with the Columbus Blue Jackets over his six NHL seasons.
- Gustav Nyquist, F. Nyquist signed a four year, $22 million contract with a $5.5 million AAV. Nyquist started last season with the Detroit Red Wings, but he was traded to the San Jose Sharks at the deadline. He played in 81 games betwen the two teams, over which he produced 60 points. Over his NHL career, he has played in 500 games and tallied 306 points. He was the 121st overall pick in 2008 by the Detroit Red Wings, and the 29-year-old winger is going to be suiting up for his third team over his nine season NHL career come fall.
- Scott Harrington, D. Harrington was resigned to a three year, $4.9 million contract that carries an annual average value of $1,633,333. He appeared in 73 games last year for the Blue Jackets, in which he potted two goals to go along with 15 assists. Over his NHL career, he has played in 152 games, in which he has recorded 26 points. Drafted 54th overall in 2012 by the Pittsburgh Penguins, the 26-year-old defenseman has played for three different teams over his seven season NHL career.
- Justin Scott, F. Scott was resigned to a one year, $700,000 contract. He spent last season in the AHL with the Blue Jackets’ affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, appearing 67 games for the team, in which he produced 24 points. He then played in eight playoff games for them, over which he tallied three points. Over his AHL career, he has played in 198 games and recorded 65 points. The undrafted free agent signed with Columbus back in April of 2016, and this was the 23-year-old wingers third professional season, all of which he has spent with Cleveland.
- Joonas Korpisalo, G. Korpisalo was resigned to a one year, $1.15 million contract. The 25-year-old goaltender appeared in 27 games for the Blue Jackets last season, in which he posted a 2.95 GAA and a .897 SV%. Over his NHL career, he owns a 2.89 GAA and a .907 SV%. Drafted 62nd overall by Columbus in 2012, Korpisalo is entering his sixth season with the organization, and it is the only one he has known professionally. He will now be looked at as their starter since former starter and Vezina tropy winner Sergei Bobrovsky signed with Florida Panthers
- Sonny Milano, F. Milano was resigned to a one year contract worth $874,125. Last season, he appeared in eight games for the Blue Jackets, in which he tallied one point. He also played in 27 games for their AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, over which he produced 24 points. He then played in eight playoff games for the Monsters, through which he recorded 10 points. During his 70 career NHL games, he has scored 24 points. Over his AHL career, he has played in 163 games and tallied 112 points. The 23-year-old winger was drafted 16th overall in 2014 by the Blue Jackets, and this will be Milano’s sixth season with the only professional organization he has known.
- Ryan MacInnis, F. MacInnis was resigned to a one year contract worth $874,125. Last season, he played in 71 games for the Jackets’ AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, in which he produced 24 points. He then played in eight playoff games for the team, over which he tallied three points. Over his AHL career, he has appeared in 200 games and recorded 55 points. The 23-year-old center was drafted 43rd overall in 2014 by the Arizona Coyotes, and this will be his second season in Cleveland. He has been with two other teams prior to Monsters, and he is entering his fifth professional season.
