The San Jose Sharks had an eventful July 1st despite only signing two players. They lost their captain Joe Pavelski to the Dallas Stars, but were able to resign young star Timo Meier to a very team-friendly contract. But, their biggest move of the offseason came exactly two weeks prior on June 17th when they resigned superstar defenseman Erik Karlsson to a mammoth eight-year, $92 million contract ($11.5 million AAV). Here’s a recap of their day and a short write-up on each of the players.
- Timo Meier, F. Meier was resigned to a four-year contract worth $30 million ($6 million AAV). In 78 games played for the Sharks last season, he tallied 30 goals and 36 assists. He also appeared in 20 playoff games for the team, in which he produced five goals and ten assists. Drafted ninth overall of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by San Jose, Meier has appeared in 193 career NHL games, over which he has recorded 54 goals and 54 assists. The 22-year-old right wing has only played for the Sharks over his three-season NHL career.

Drafted in the fifth round (132nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, Heed has appeared in 67 career NHL games, in which he has produced five goals and 19 assists. The 28-year-old defenseman is remaining with the only organization he has known over his three-season NHL career in the Sharks.
- Dalton Prout, D. Prout was signed to a one-year contract worth $800,000 on July 2nd. He appeared in 20 games for the Calgary Flames last season, in which he produced one goal and one assist. Drafted in the sixth round (154th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, Prout has played in 262 career NHL games, over which he has recorded seven goals and 31 assists. The 29-year-old defenseman is on his fourth organization over his eight-season NHL career.
