The Los Angeles Kings had a quiet July 1st, as they signed just one depth player. This was expected after the disastrous season the team had, which showed that it may be time for them to rebuild or at least retool. They desperately need to get younger, and free agency is not the way to that, so it was best for the team to stay out of the frenzy. Here’s a recap of their day and a short write-up on the new signings.

Joakim Ryan, D.Ryan was signed to a one-year contract worth $725,000. In 44 games played with the San Jose Sharks last season, he recorded zero goals and seven assists. He then appeared in 20 playoff games for the team, tallying zero goals and one assist. Drafted in the seventh round (198th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Sharks, Ryan has appeared in 106 career NHL games, over which he has produced three goals and 16 assists. The 26-year-old defenseman is leaving the only team he has known over his two season NHL career in the Sharks.
This post will be updated if and when the team makes any more signings.
