The Calgary Flames were quiet on July 1st, only making one signing. This was expected as they have several RFAs to sign, most notably forward Matthew Tkachuk, and they will command a lot of money. The Flames also don’t have much cap room considering the players they still have to sign, as they have $9.5 million to spend, so it is not a surprise to anyone they weren’t active. Here’s a recap on their day and each of the signings.

Cam Talbot, G. Talbot was signed to a one-year, $2.75 million contract. He’s coming off a rough season, in which he played 35 games and had a 3.40 GAA and 0.892 SV%. But, the Flames need him as a back-up at most, and he should bounce back a little next season and be fine in that role if Jon Gillies is not yet ready for the NHL. He started last season with the Edmonton Oilers, playing in 31 games with them, but he was then traded shortly before the deadline to the Philadelphia Flyers. Signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Rangers before the 2013-14 season, Talbot has appeared in 288 career NHL games, in which he owns a 2.60 GAA and 0.915 SV%. The 32-year-old netminder is on his fourth organization over his six-season NHL career.
This post will be updated later if and when the team makes any more signings.
