The Winnipeg Jets were quiet on July 1st, signings just two depth players. This was expected of the team, given they are already a Stanley Cup contender and have a lot of players they need to resign for next season. Their biggest move of the offseason has yet to come, as they still have to resign sniper Patrik Laine. Here’s a recap of their day and a short write-up on each player.

  • Nathan Beaulieu, D. Beaulieu was resigned to a one-year, $1 million contract. In 48 games played for the Jets last season, he recorded three goals and nine assists. He did not play in any of their playoff games. Drafted 17th overall of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, Beaulieu has appeared in 332 career NHL games, in which he has produced 11 goals and 70 assists. The 26-year-old defenseman is remaining with the third team he has played for over his seven-season NHL career.
  • Mark Letestu, F. Letestu was signed to a one-year contract worth $700,000. He is coming off of a very strange season that saw him suiting up in just two NHL games for the Columbus Blue Jackets, in which he recorded zero points, and then being sent to the AHL, where he had not played in nearly a decade. He appeared in 64 games for the Blue Jackets’ AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, in which he produced 21 goals and 29 assists. He also played in nine playoff games for the team, in which he collected three goals and two assists. Signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins organization as an undrafted free agent before the start of the 2006-07 season, Letestu has appeared in 560 career NHL games, in which he has tallied 93 goals and 117 assists. The 34-year-old center is on his fourth team over his ten season NHL career and 13-year professional career.

This post will be updated if and when the team makes any more signings.
