The Dallas Stars had a somewhat active July 1st, as they only made three signings but got one of the best players on the market. Their biggest signing of the day (and offseason so far) was undoubtedly signing former San Jose Sharks captain Joe Pavelski to a three-year deal. Here’s a quick recap of their day and a short write-up on each player.

  • Corey Perry, F. Perry was signed to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million. In 31 games played for the Anaheim Ducks last season, he produced six goals and four assists. Drafted 28th overall of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Ducks, Perry has appeared in 988 career NHL games, in which he has recorded 372 goals and 404 assists. The 34-year-old right wing is leaving the only team he has known over his 14-season NHL career after having his contract bought out by Anaheim on June 19th, 2019.
  • Joe Pavelski, F. Pavelski was signed to a three-year contract worth $21 million ($7 million AAV). In 75 games for the San Jose Sharks last season, Pavelski tallied 38 goals and 26 assists. He also played in 13 playoff games for the team, in which he recorded four goals and five assists. Drafted in the seventh round (205th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Sharks, Pavelski has appeared in 963 career NHL games, in which he had produced 355 goals and 406 assists. The 35-year-old center is leaving the only organization he has known over his 15-year NHL career in the Sharks after serving as their captain for the past four seasons.
  • Andrej Sekera, D. Sekera signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract. In 24 games played for the Edmonton Oilers last season, he recorded zero goals and four assists. Drafted in the third round (71st overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, Sekera has appeared in 707 career NHL games, in which he has produced 45 goals and 191 assists. The 33-year-old defenseman is on his fifth team over his 13-season NHL career.
