Yesterday, Pittsburgh resigned defenseman Zach Trotman and defenseman Zach Czuczman to two year, two way contracts with an AAV of $700,000. These signing take care of two minor UFAs that the Penguins still need to be sign.

At 28 years old, Zach Trotman suited up for the Penguins 13 times this season, racking up one assist and a +4 along the way. Trotman has 13 career points in 83 games in the NHL. He also saw some time with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, having five points in 24 games this year, adding to his career totals of 80 points in 232 games with three different AHL teams. He is a good eighth defenseman when a couple of regular defenseman get injured.

At 28 years old, Zach Czuczman didn’t see any NHL time this season but had 21 points in 65 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Czuczman has 110 career points in 336 career games in the AHL with three different teams. At 28, it’s unlikely the Czuczman will ever make a major impact on the team, but might be solid ninth or tenth guy if needed in the future.

Both of these signings add much needed D-depth. Pittsburgh will most likely have a few defensive injuries this season and these guys might need to jump in for a few games. These also take care of a couple free agents but there are still more to sign.
